Hearing 101

The First Steps

Making the decision to come in for a hearing assessment is the first step to better hearing. At APEX Hearing Systems Ltd your first assessment will include a thorough case history, complete audiological assessment, discussion of results and recommendations. APEX Hearing Systems Ltd. schedules an hour and forty five minutes for your first assessment to ensure you receive the necessary procedures. Your case history will examine your medical and hearing history as well as your communication concerns and demands. The hearing assessment will examine the outer, middle and inner ear to determine the integrity of these fine structures.

The results are explained in a manner so you the patient can understand them and their impact on your day to day life. The recommendations may take a number of forms. The clinician may refer you back to your physician or recommend a consultation with an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist. They would determine if there was any medical solution to the hearing problem or if any further investigation was needed. Another recommendation may be a trial of hearing aids if your hearing loss warrants the use of amplification. Hearing aids need to meet your hearing demands but, also your communication demands. A variety of factors must also be considered to ensure that you have the correct hearing aids for your individual needs. All hearing aids with APEX Hearing Systems Ltd. come with a 45 day trial period where you have the opportunity to experience the hearing aids in your environments.

Some of the newest styles of hearing aids can be fit the same day while others require them to be custom fit for your ear. Throughout the 45 day trial period you will return to your clinician to determine how you are progressing with your new hearing aids. APEX Hearing Systems Ltd. provides a five year service plan with all of their hearing aids. This includes regular cleanings and regular assessments of your hearing to ensure that your hearing is remaining stable. This is essential as it ensures you are able to get the maximum benefit that your hearing aids are able to provide.
